DENTAL CLEANINGS

  • 1 hour
  • Stanley R. McCardle, D.M.D. | Family Dentistry

Service Description

Dental hygiene cleanings, also known as prophylaxis, are routine dental procedures performed by dental hygienists. These cleanings aim to remove plaque, tartar, and stains from the teeth and gumline, which cannot be effectively removed through regular brushing and flossing. During a dental hygiene cleaning, the hygienist will use specialized tools, such as scalers and ultrasonic instruments, to carefully and thoroughly remove the buildup of bacteria and debris from the teeth and gums. They will also polish the teeth to remove surface stains and make them smoother to discourage the accumulation of bacteria. The purpose of dental hygiene cleanings is to prevent the development of dental problems, such as cavities and gum disease. Regular cleanings can help to maintain good oral hygiene and overall health. Additionally, dental hygiene cleanings can help identify potential dental problems early, allowing for prompt treatment and prevention of more serious issues. At our office, we recommend that patients schedule routine dental hygiene cleanings every six months to maintain optimal oral health. However, some patients with specific dental needs may require more frequent cleanings or specialty cleanings, which will be diagnosed by Dr. McCardle. Our goal is to help patients achieve and maintain healthy teeth and gums for a lifetime.
